The Red Barn at the Dodge Nature Center in Mendota Heights, MN, is a landmark. Plein air painting during the winter has some unique challenges. The oil paints gets stiff, which makes them harder to apply, and my feet and fingers can get cold. Not much can be done about the paints, but I can extend my time in the field at least an hour when I slip a disposable hand warmer inside each glove and my Sorel boots.
